HKBU Department of Journalism is committed to educate future journalism professionals who care social inequality, human rights, and poverty. The objective ties well with the Prize’s idea. This year, we are delighted to become the Prize’s Asian partner.

The European Commission’s Lorenzo Natali Media Prize rewards journalists who bring stories on development to light. The Prize gathers a community of past winners, jury members and partners who are committed to tackling the global challenges of peace and security, climate change, migration and gender equality.The Prize is open to five world regions, including Africa, Asia & Pacific, Europe, Latin America & the Caribbean, the Middle-East and the Arab Region. Applications can come from journalism who cover development issues from the countries where DG DEVCO and DG NEAR provide development assistance.

 

2019 Categories and Prizes

The 2019 Lorenzo Natali Media Prize will be awarded in 3 categories:

  1. Grand Prize: open to journalists whose media headquarter is located in one of the more than 160 partner countries* with which the European Union engages on development and cooperation.
  2. Europe Prize: open to journalists whose media headquarter is located in one of the countries of the European Union.
  3. Best Emerging Journalist Prize: open to journalists under 30 whose media is headquartered in any country where DG DEVCO and DG NEAR provide development assistance*, as well as in the EU Member States.

The winner of each category will receive €10,000. In addition, the winner of the Best Emerging Journalist Prize category will be offered a work experience with a media partner.

The 3 winners will be announced at the 2019 European Development Days in Brussels this June.
