在加入學術界前,閭丘博士在電視新聞媒體工作了二十年。她採訪了許多重大國際新聞,包括阿富汗反恐戰爭,伊拉克戰爭,阿拉伯之春,印尼海嘯,日本地震,四川地震等。她也負責報導中國政治新聞,採訪了多位中國國家領導人。她在鳳凰衛視擔任過記者,主持人,評論員以及新聞總監。閭丘博士也因為出版的書籍以及活躍在中文互聯網而吸引無數中文讀者。她是2006年哈佛大學尼曼學者。她在賓州州立大學獲得大眾傳播博士學位,浸會大學獲得大眾傳播碩士學位。她出生於上海,並且在上海復旦大學獲得哲學學士學位。
