Scholarships

Numerous scholarships and awards are available for journalism students at the departmental and school levels.

Department of Journalism
HKBU Journalism Alumni Scholarship for Outstanding Works

The scholarship awards journalism student undergraduates with a cGPA of 2.70 or above and who has produced outstanding works. HK$5,000 is presented to each recipient.


Ice Breaker Scholarship

Under this scholarship, HK$5,000 is awarded to four journalism students with outstanding academic performance.


Journalism Scholarship

This scholarship of HK$15,000 each is presented to four journalism students with outstanding academic performance (GPA over 3.00). Recipients should not receive other scholarships concurrently.


Kinda Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to two outstanding, full-time, local permanent residents in the Journalism Department with a cGPA of 3.00 or above, good personalities and excellent non-academic achievements. Each recipient can receive HK$10,000.


Mr. Peter Pun Chiu Yin Journalism Scholarship

This scholarship awards two year-2 students in journalism who have completed year-1 studies with excellent achievement. Each recipient is presented HK$20,000.


PCCW – HKT Scholarships

The HK$10,000 scholarship is awarded to one student majoring in journalism with outstanding academic performance.


Skylight Scholarship for Outstanding Works

This scholarship is presented to two outstanding, full-time year-3 journalism students with a cGPA of 2.70 or above. Each recipient is awarded HK$20,000 and chosen on the basis of presence and performance on online media as an independent journalist with local concerns and international impact.

School of Communication
China Review News Agency Scholarship

The scholarship in the amount of HK$10,000 each is awarded to four full-time year-3 Communication students, in which one of the students is from the Department of Journalism. The awardees should be with a minimum cGPA of 3.00, leadership abilities, extensive general knowledge, high civic mindedness, excellent communication skills and have an outstanding record in extra-curricular activities and/or community and voluntary services.


Commercial Radio 50th Anniversary Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to ten year-2 or above undergraduate or postgraduate communication students with a minimum cGPA of 3.00 and who will pursue a career in journalism and media. Each recipient is awarded HK$20,000 and chosen on the basis of academic excellence, strong leadership abilities, extensive general knowledge, high civic mindedness and excellent communication skills.


Communication Scholarship Scheme

Nine scholarships of HK$15,000 each are awarded to full-time, year-2 communication undergraduate students with good academic performance. Selection is based on the cGPA at the end of the 2nd semester. Priority would be given to awardee(s) who does not concurrently hold other academic scholarship(s), but excluding those scholarships supporting the awardees to attend exchange programme or scholarships recognizing the awardees’ specific contribution or achievements during their studies at HKBU.


Dean’s Award

This HK$20,000 scholarship is awarded to one full-time, year-2 or above communication student with a minimum cGPA of 3.00, leadership abilities, extensive general knowledge, excellent communication skills, and have an outstanding record in extra-curricular activities and/or community and voluntary services.


Intellectual Scholarship for Outstanding Performance

An outstanding, full-time communication undergraduate student with a minimum cGPA of 2.70 and contributions to the community, in terms of social responsibility, preferably built on the skills they acquired from classrooms, will be awarded HK$8,000.


Kan Hing Communication Scholarship

This HK$10,000 scholarship is awarded to three outstanding year-4 communication students (at least one student is from the Film and Media Arts Major) with a minimum cGPA of 3.00.


Lion Rock Scholarship Honoring Excellent Work

Under this scholarship, three scholarships of HK$20,000 are available each academic year. The awardees should be communication undergraduate students who are permanent residents of Hong Kong, able to produce outstanding and creative works and aspire to join the media profession after graduation.


School of Communication Minor Programme Award

The scholarship awards ten full-time, undergraduate communication students (including first-year and third-year intakes) who have achieved a cGPA of at least 3.00 for the five courses in their Minor programme. Each recipient is awarded HK$5,000 under the scholarship.


World Communications Year Scholarship

In this scholarship, HK$5,000 is awarded to one student with good academic achievements in communication.

Bursary

School of Communication
Mr. Chau Wai Tong Bursary

Two bursaries of HK$10,000 each are established by Mr. Chau Wai Tong to provide financial assistance annually to two local, year-2 or above undergraduate communication students with genuine financial need and satisfactory academic performance. Eligible candidates should have attained a GPA of 2.50 or above in their previous academic year. Applicants are required to provide a statement of their academic results and supporting documents to show their financial situation and all submissions shall be investigated by the School of Communication. The selection will be based on candidates’ financial circumstances and academic performance.
